Parkinson's Support and Wellness Group Shares Information on PD.

Representatives from our new philanthropy, Parkinson's Support and Wellness Group, joined Anatomy and Physiology Club members at our first general body meeting of the 2020 spring semester to familiarize and introduce themselves to the organization and talk about their efforts in supporting the Parkinson's community.

Maureen Gartner (pictured above) is the Nurse Practitioner for the University of Cincinnati Center for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders. She works closely with doctors and plays an essential role by providing support to persons with Parkinson's Disease (PD) and helping them in managing their disease.

Gartner spoke to APC members about PD, providing information on the history of the disease, common symptoms and current treatment options available.

Miami alumni Carol Simon (pictured above) is an advocate within the Parkinson's' community and shared her lived experience with PD.

From teacher at Indian Hill High School to activist who has lobbied for brain research in Washington DC, Simon imparted valuable knowledge and philosophy on the mindset of wellness during times of difficulty.

"With a focus on wellness, there is hope!"

Simon's Points of Wellness and Principles to Remember have been included at the end of this post - it's worth the read!

The Anatomy and Physiology Club looks forward to working with the Parkinson's Support and Wellness Group in the future and to learning more about the disease that affects 10 million people worldwide as well as what we can do to support those with Parkinson's in our own community.
